a misconception of marriage that is so rampant nowadays is that marriage is about you. that it’s about what you can get out of it. it’s not.
when you don’t enter marriage with a humble and self-sacrificial heart, things will inevitable fall apart.
all marriage has issues and downfalls but those that go into marriage with a self-serving attitude will leave the second it gets tough. the second things don’t go their way or the second their spouse mess up. that’s why everyone’s getting divorce. that’s why marriages fail often.
marriage is reflective of Christ and His Bride (the Church). there needs to be constant acts of service and putting your spouses needs above your own. there needs to be support even when there are disagreements.
doing things 50/50 and saying “you do your part then I’ll do mine” is a terrible mindset. it benefits no one.
it should be 100/100 and “i will fulfill my part even if you sometimes don’t fulfill yours because we are now one and i am committed to this union”.
